    The history is rich in Leander Texas.  Originally inhabited by several Native American tribes, and then in the 1500s explored by the first Europeans.   By the 1800s the community was known as Bagdad

    , named after the hometown of one of the settlers from Tennessee.  When the railroad came and bypassed Bagdad, all of the merchants moved closer to the tracks, so a new town was born, and named Leander.

    But the history goes back even further.  In 1982 the Texas Highway Department archeologists discovered the remains of a prehistoric female at the Wilson-Leonard Brushy Creek site. Because she was found so close to Leander, she became known as the Leanderthal Lady.

    Today, Leander located in the beautiful Hill Country about 25 miles north of Austin, is a highly desirable place to live.  The Leander school district is known for it's uncompromising vision and devotion to excellent education.  This fast growing and highly rated school district is integral to Leanders continued growth.  The city government website is a fantastic resource for many details about Leander Texas.

    The beautiful Crystal Falls Golf Club makes it's home near Leander, as do several lovely bed and breakfast inns, and many beautiful city parks.  Not far from Lake Travis and near to the fast growing Austin technology corridor too.  Leander Texas is a perfect Hill Country place to call home.
